Calls Drive In

If you're cruising through Perry, Utah, hungry for something casual, nostalgic, and seriously satisfying, it's worth making a stop at Calls Drive In. Located at 1650 S Hwy 89, this family-run drive-in has been a local staple for decades, known for its no-nonsense burgers, thick shakes, and an all-around menu that brings back the best of small-town American fast food. With hours from 11:00 AM to 8:30 PM most days (closing slightly earlier Monday through Thursday), Calls Drive In keeps things classic, consistent, and well-executed.

This isn’t some overly polished chain trying to replicate the “retro” diner vibe—Calls Drive In is the real deal. From the moment you pull in, you’re greeted by that comforting smell of grilled beef, fryer oil, and soft-serve vanilla. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t need to scream for attention because its food—and its loyal customer base—speaks for itself.

One of the most popular menu items, hands down, is their Bacon Cheeseburger. The patty is cooked to juicy perfection, the bacon is crispy, and the toppings are stacked fresh and simple: lettuce, tomato, onion, and a signature fry sauce that ties it all together. It’s the kind of burger that’s not too fussy but hits every craving dead-on. If you want to go bigger, the double cheeseburger is a beast in the best way—and doesn’t shy away from portion size.

Burgers aside, the fries and tots deserve their own praise. Crisp, golden, and salted just right, they make an ideal pairing to just about anything on the menu. Or go one better and try the chili cheese fries, which are a local favorite for good reason—hot, cheesy, and messy in a way that makes you not care about using extra napkins. And if you’re the type that wants something different from the usual burger-and-fries route, Calls Drive In also serves up corn dogs, grilled cheese, chicken sandwiches, and halibut baskets, each with that same made-to-order freshness.

Now let’s talk shakes. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill, pour-from-the-machine kind of deals. The hand-spun shakes at Calls are thick, creamy, and come in all the classic flavors—chocolate, vanilla, strawberry—plus a rotating list of seasonal options. They’re rich enough to be a dessert on their own, but if you pair one with a burger, you’ve officially nailed the full drive-in experience. Kids love the twist cones, and adults will appreciate that the sweet side of the menu isn’t an afterthought.

What makes Calls Drive In really stand out is the combination of nostalgia and genuine quality. It’s got that authentic small-town feel, where people know your name and your “usual” if you come often enough. The service is quick, the staff is friendly, and everything is packed to travel well—whether you’re eating in your car, grabbing takeout, or snagging a picnic table on a sunny afternoon.

Friday and Saturday nights tend to get a little busier, especially in the summer, when locals pile in for a post-softball-game meal or families stop in for dinner on the way home from Brigham City. But even when it’s packed, the kitchen moves efficiently, and you won’t wait long. That consistency—both in food and service—is part of why Calls Drive In has remained a go-to for generations.

You’re not coming here for trendy fusion dishes or health-conscious substitutions. You’re coming for real-deal burgers, thick milkshakes, salty fries, and a menu that hasn’t changed much because, frankly, it doesn’t need to. There’s something comforting about that kind of reliability, especially in a world of fast-changing food trends and impersonal drive-thru chains. Calls knows what it does well—and it does it better than most.

The food is Amazing every time I go there, the onion rings are especially delicious. Fast service expectations for time from order to food in your car is 5 to 15 minutes depending on what you order. It is a classic drive-in restaurant with a few outdoor tables with a carport cover. Most people Order and eat in there car or get an order to go.

Like everything, shrinkflation has happened here as well. The Duane Special is still a great burger but has obviously dropped in quality and size and still risen in cost. Another place we used to go 2-3 times a month but now, 3-4 times a year.

Call's is surely a local fave! If the season is right, they're open and serving the BEST onion rings on the planet. Call's is hands down the best drive-in in this drive-in heavy area!
